Self-Care is Vitally Important!

Take some time for yourself today!

So many of us are under the burden of responsibilities given by others, but most of the time, those responsibilities are amplified in our minds. These responsibilities could include house chores, catching up with friends and ‘keeping up appearances,’ impressing the team or the boss, and taking control over everything in our family’s lives. It can all start to feel like ‘too much if we don’t step away from all of it, at least sometimes.

We must find time to be ‘consciously alone,’ as well as physically. That time is for us and us alone. And that doesn’t mean we get to catch up on chores, shopping, or time with our loved ones. It is intended to be solitary, secluded, peaceful, and healing.

Putting aside some time that’s true for ourselves means that we get to spend time on our own doing what we want to do, not what we think everyone else thinks we ought to be doing. We may call the urge to be ‘productive,’ however, with time, we can practice the habit of truly taking time for ourselves and allowing ourselves to exist without ‘needing’ to get anything done.

Ultimately, taking time for ourselves is a form of productivity. It’s a form of self-care that allows us to process our thoughts and feelings, have a break and recharge our batteries before our following tasks. It will enable us to get to know ourselves more deeply (self-reflection and self-awareness), where there is no one else to perform for or impress. We can then understand more fully what we need to improve our lives.

It’s a conscious choice and an achievement in itself — a decision that can benefit our self-esteem — and it leads to freedom, creativity, intimacy, and spirituality!
