Additional charges in reference to the accidental shooting reported on April 6, 2023, for Nathan Copeland have been obtained and include:
Child Abuse/Neglect: Reckless Disregard for Life; Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Convicted Felon; and Firearm: Leave Loaded, Endangering Child. Mr. Copeland remains in custody.
Accidental Shooting
On April 6, 2023, at approximately 9:08 a.m., NNPD responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of 26th Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 3-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The shooting appears to be accidental. During the investigation, the father, Nathan Copeland was charged with Distribution/Possession with Intent: Marijuana. The child’s death investigation is ongoing and other charges are pending.
