Update: 2 Charged in Crash Investigation

On May 14, 2020, approximately 5:14 p.m., Newport News police encountered a stolen vehicle in North Precinct. An officer attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver did not comply.

Police pursued the vehicle onto Interstate 64. At some point, a second vehicle, which also return stolen, joined the pursuit and attempted to stop officers by ramming into a police vehicle. The vehicles left the interstate onto Mercury Boulevard, and the second vehicle crashed in the area of Big Bethel Road in Hampton. One male driver was detained.

The driver of the first vehicle continued on Mercury Boulevard until the vehicle crashed in the area of Jefferson Avenue. A male and a female were detained. No injuries were reported.

After further investigation, warrants were obtained charging 19-year-old Dasani J. Brickhouse, of the 800 block of Lucas Creek Road, and 21-year-old Armani Malik Daquan Delk, of the 11400 block of Jefferson Avenue. Both were turned over to the custody of the Newport News City Jail.

Mr. Brickhouse is charged with three counts grand larceny and one count each assault on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice and driving without a license.

Mr. Delk is charged with one count each reckless driving, disregard or elude law enforcement command, driving without a license, seat belt required: front seat, and buy/receive stolen goods.
