UPDATE: Homicide-Chestnut Avenue and 34th Street

In reference to the investigation below, the victim was identified as 20-year-old D’Manuel Carlyle Banks, of Newport News.

The circumstances of this incident remain under investigation, and no further information is available for release at this time.

On Sunday, April 24, 2022, approximately 7:39 p.m., Newport News police officers responded to the area of Chestnut Avenue and 34th Street after hearing gunfire.

Officers at the scene were unable to locate a victim, but were alerted that an injured adult male was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. The adult male succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The circumstances of this incident remain under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
