Homicide Investigation — 36th Street

Update (June 23, 3:45 p.m.): The victim in this Sunday morning’s homicide on 36th Street has been identified as 34-year-old Wayne Hill of Hampton.
On June 23, 2024, at approximately 2:13 a.m., Newport News Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 700 block of 36th Street. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
There is no further information at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
