Homicide Investigation
On August 3, 2022, approximately 1:41 a.m., Newport News police responded to Triple Effectz, in the 400 block of Denbigh Boulevard, in reference to an unconscious person. There, officers located an individual suffering from an injury from an assault. The victim — later identified as 36-year-old Justin Michael Dudney, of Newport News — was taken to a local hospital with a life-threatening injury.
After further investigation, a warrant was obtained charging 27-year-old Xavier Demonye Bonilla, of Newport News. Mr. Bonilla was arrested August 4, 2022 and charged with one count aggravated assault.
On August 11, 2022, Mr. Dudney died from his injuries at the hospital. Mr. Bonilla’s charge was updated to voluntary manslaughter, and he was served while in custody at the Newport News Jail. His booking photo is below.
