On June 15, 2024 at 2:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Jebs Place in reference to a person with a gun. Additional calls followed regarding shots fired. Upon arrival, they encountered an agitated armed adult female. Despite several attempts to deescalate the situation, and due to the subject’s actions, an officer discharged his weapon striking the subject. Officers rendered care until medics arrived. The subject was then transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Prior to the standoff, the subject was in a car with two individuals who reported being held at gunpoint by her. She demanded the driver take her to a specific location. While traveling, the driver crashed into a parked vehicle, leading to the female exiting the vehicle and leaving the scene on foot. Hampton Police Division received a call where the occupants of the vehicle reported being carjacked by the female. NNPD confirmed it was the same vehicle.

The subject’s weapon was recovered and had been reported as stolen out of the City of Portsmouth. No officers were injured. The officer involved was placed on administrative leave with pay pending completion of the investigation. The investigation remains ongoing.

NNPD is currently conducting interviews. Chief Steve Drew will hold a press conference on Monday to provide further details. Notifications will be sent via Media Advisory.
