NNPD Makes Arrest in 2023 Homicide Investigation

Newport News Police Department announced Wednesday that an arrest has been made in a 2023 homicide investigation.

On October 6, 2023, NNPD was contacted by CPS regarding an infant who had been transported to an area hospital with undetermined injuries. The 4-month-old child succumbed to his injuries on November 1, 2023.

Following further medical analysis to determine cause of death, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the infant’s death a homicide. Charges were then obtained against the child’s father, 21-year-old Aaron Howard-Westbrook Sr. of Newport News, for second-degree murder, child abuse/neglect causing serious injury (x2) and malicious wounding. He was taken into custody on May 3, 2024.
