NNPD Makes Homicide Arrest

Newport News Police Department recently made two arrests following a shooting turned homicide investigation. On Feb. 14, Thomas Crawley, 52, was shot and critically wounded in an incident which occurred in the 1100 block of 28th Street. He succumbed to his injuries on Feb. 26.

Marlyn Nieves-Collazo, 37, of Newport News was arrested following the incident on Feb. 15. She was charged with one count each:

· Aggravated malicious wounding
· Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
· Discharging a firearm in a public place
· Reckless handling of a firearm
· Brandishing

Following Mr. Crawley’s death, her charges were upgraded to include Murder: 2nd Degree.

Damian Guzman, 20, of Newport News was arrested on March 4 and charged with one count each:

· Murder: 2nd Degree
· Malicious Wounding
· Firearm: Shoot In Public Place, Cause Injury
· Drugs: Manufacture/Distribute Imitation Schedule I/II drug
· Firearm: Use in Commission of Felony, 1st Offense
· Reckless Handling of Firearm Causes Serious Injury
· Intentionally Prevent a LEO from Lawfully Arresting the Accused
· Identity Theft: Obtain ID to Avoid Arrest/Etc.
· Failure To Appear: On Felony Offense
· Wear Masks in Certain Places
