Update: 2 Escaped Inmates Taken Into Custody

Update (3:50 a.m., March 21): The two escaped inmates were taken into custody in Hampton.

Newport News Police Department is urging the public to be on the lookout for two inmates who escaped from the Newport News City Jail Annex on Monday evening.

Arley Vaughn Nemo and John Michael Garza escaped from custody shortly before 6 p.m. Monday and were last seen crossing Huntington Avenue headed in the direction of Warwick Boulevard.

Nemo is described as a 43-year-old white male, approximately 5-feet-7 inches tall. He has a bald head with facial stubble and was last seen wearing a white thermal sweatsuit.

Garza is a 37-year-old white male with strawberry blonde hair, a full beard and blue eyes. He was also last seen wearing a white thermal sweatsuit.

Both individuals should be considered dangerous. Anyone who sees them should not approach, but should call 911 or the Newport News Police Communications at (757) 247–2500.
