How Meesho built itself on community e-commerce?

Meesho, a recent unicorn built itself on the unique idea that a user requires a nudge to buy goods that he or she likes mostly around fashion and digital equipment. So they figured out a frictionless nudge for these users through community apps like Whatsapp and Instagram.

So how does it differentiates itself from traditional e-commerce websites like Amazon and Flipkart?

Meesho enables influencers to post images of the goods that are listed on it on apps like Whatsapp and Instagram, and when a potential customer wants to buy that good the influencer can simply place an order and add his or her required commission and it would be delivered directly to the customer and in the entire process, Meesho’s name wouldn’t be shown anywhere to the customer. So it's a win-win situation for the company, as well as an influencer who wants to make some money working from home and also the customer as well who bought it without any extra effort and having to browse through several listings on e-commerce apps.

Meesho provides the nudge that potential customers need to order something on the social networking apps that they commonly use, hence eliminating all the friction of installing a separate app and checking wide amounts of listing on it. It’s as simple as a whatsapp group created by an influencer or a group of influencers where they sell the products.

As with all unconventional ideas Meesho had a hard time aligning early investors with the idea, but with the growing audience, app installs, and revenue, it soon became investors darling!

Meesho alongside providing the nudge to the customers is providing a source of income particularly to women who are its influencers and provides the nudge to the customers to buy the goods listed on the platform.

So all in all Meesho and its own growth looks interesting and would be quite interesting to see its growth in the coming years as well!
