Creating a virtual classroom platform that recreates the physical classroom online is our top priority so we invest heavily on optimizing and improving webcam streaming. This version focused on fixing bugs, adding additional behaviors and improving the core of what we do.

Reorder Webcam Position, Multiple Rows + Optimizations

Introducing multiple rows of webcam participants!

Up until now, webcam participants were displayed in a single row. To see every participant each user could click an arrow to scroll through everyone in the session. With today’s release, we now show up to 3 rows of webcams depending on the number of webcams on stage as well as the size of a person’s window. So now more than ever you can see the whole class face-to-face online.

Even better, instructors can now click and drag webcams on stage into specific positions that syncs with every participant. If your webcam is in the bottom left but you want to be in the top right, you can drag to reorder your webcam to the position you want to be in.

This version also comes chalk full of optimizations and fixes to webcam streaming and initialization:

  • Seamless switching. We improved how webcams are reconnecting when being moved from stage to off stage and back to stage as well as when they are being moved to presenter mode or back. Instead of disconnecting and reconnecting, webcams move quickly and seamlessly.
  • Switching mic caused disconnection. We fixed an issue where changing the selected microphone would sometimes cause your webcam to disconnect.
  • Firefox “Video/Audio Input”. We fixed an issue where connected devices would display as “Video Input” or “Audio Input” respectively.
  • Cannot activate mic. We fixed an issue where some users with mic only, could not activate their microphone because they did not have a webcam.

Small Bug Fixes and Updates

In this version, we included a number of small bug fixes and updates. We highlighted some of them below.

  • Reorder chapters. Now instructors can reorder self paced course chapters by clicking and dragging the chapter to a new position.
  • New moderators YouTube reset. Setting one of your participants as a moderator when a YouTube video was playing would restart the YouTube video for them so that they would see the YouTube video from a different point than all other participants. This also occurred if an instructor entered the class when a YouTube video was playing.
  • Play/pause YouTube freeze. We fixed an issue where playing and pausing a YouTube video a few times in a row sometimes caused the YouTube video to play in the background even after it was removed from stage.
  • Conflicts with screen sharing. We fixed an issue when one moderator tried to share their screen while another moderator was sharing their screen.
  • Recording stopped screen share. We fixed an issue where once recording started, screen share would stop sharing your screen.
  • Whiteboard toolbar missing. We fixed an issue where the whiteboard toolbar was sometimes hidden when first opening the class.

That’s it for now!
