A wave of new features to 🏄 as the summer heat peaks.

Cloud recording

newrow_ smart cloud recording is now available.

Record Your Live Class

Delivering an engaging live class — creating and organizing content to share, bringing large groups of learners together at one time, presenting the material while simultaneously interacting with your learners — is a lot of work. Recording and archiving your class is a great way to get additional value out of your efforts by providing your learners the ability to review the class recording for on-demand learning opportunities.

With newrow_ smart cloud recording, all users with access to premium features — those with a smart course plan and/or recording plan — can record their live class:

  • Record your class with newrow_ smart cloud recording. Choose a recording duration and click start. The recording captures your webcam participants’ audio/video as well as the content you share.
  • Access your recordings within minutes after recording has completed in your course files. Course recordings are automatically processed and added to your course files.
  • Share recordings in your live classes. Add your class recordings to your playlist to share in future live classes.
  • Download and share your class recordings. Your class recording files are standard video file formats (mp4) that can be shared and played in most major video players without any conversion.

In upcoming versions, we are adding some very exciting features for self-paced learning. More on that later :-)

Virtual Classroom and Webinar Class Modes

Introducing newrow_ smart class modes.

Screen capture of newrow_ smart course settings

With newrow_ smart class modes you can now define your live class as either a Virtual Classroom or a Webinar.

By default, your live classes are set as Virtual Classrooms. Virtual classroom class mode provides a “hands free” approach to managing your learners in the live class. With the virtual classroom class mode, you’ll have the same experience as you had previously with newrow_ smart:

  • Learners are prompted to turn on their devices when joining the live class. If learners have already used newrow_ smart, then their webcam and microphone devices are automatically initiated.
  • When your learners’ devices are activated, they are automatically added to stage.

If your classes have many participants or you don’t want your learners to automatically be prompted to turn on their devices and be added to stage, then we have the Webinar class mode. With the Webinar class mode, you have more control on who is added to stage:

  • Learners are not prompted to turn on their devices when entering the live class. If they have previously given newrow_ smart permission to activate their devices, then their devices are not automatically initiated.
  • If your learners activate their devices by using the controls in the upper bar, then they are not automatically added to stage. You can add them to stage manually using the Live button in the participant list.

newrow_ smart Supports the LTI Standard

Need a virtual classroom platform in your Learning Management System? newrow_ smart can be seamlessly integrated into your LMS by supporting the LTI standard.

  • LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) — connects securely to your favorite education platforms.
  • Single Sign On (SSO) — your students & instructors don’t have to worry about additional URL’s, accounts and passwords. They can access their virtual classrooms from your LMS.
  • Recording sync — Your class recordings can be pushed out to your LMS file management system automatically.

Chat, Participant List and Playlist All Open

Chat + Participant List + Playlist

Wish you had a way to keep the participant list open and follow the chat conversation? Now you can. Instead of being limited to having only the chat open or only the participant list open or only the playlist open, now you can have one, two or all of them open at the same time.

You can still display or hide each item — participant list, chat, playlist — by clicking their icons in the upper bar of the live class or clicking the corresponding x in the top right corner of each to dismiss them. The difference is that if one item is currently open then clicking another item stacks the two to display both instead of replacing the currently displayed item. Checkout the GIF above to get a clearer picture.
