Every New Year, we take stock of how the last year went and we turn towards our fitness and wellness goals, vowing to make this year healthier than the last.

Want to get healthier this year? Fitness is a partnership of workouts and food: keeping food simple and real will create an overall positive impact on your health.

This year aim for more plants on your plate, keep seasoning and preparation simple to retain more nutrients, and prepare as much of your own food as you can via batch cooking to cut down on stress, budget and time constraints.

Here are five favorite ways to keep your food clean, whole and simple:

1. Monster Smoothie

The easiest way to get your engine charged for the day is to add smoothies to your life. This one is a perfect for breakfast. The frozen fruit makes it cost effective and quick, the collagen adds protein to keep you full longer while carrying a gut healing punch and the probiotics do wonders for your mood and digestive health.

2. Simplicity Salad

The best lunch for your health truly is a salad. They are easy to prep, tote and are packed with nutrients that won’t put you to sleep midday. If you want protein with them you can easily add it! Simple preparation and dressing on food allow for the true flavors of the food to sing through while keeping the caloric intake down.

3. One Pot Shrimp

Busy lives need real solutions for dinner that don’t take a ton of prep or cook time. This recipe delivers on that and doesn’t skip on taste, presentation or heartiness.

4. M&K Short Ribs

As a busy momma I love dinners you can walk away from in order to check other things off the ‘to-do’ list. This is a favorite in our house because of the hearty flavor but also because you can walk away and when you come back have a stunning dinner ready and waiting for you.

5. Basil Asparagus Soup

Soups are an incredibly efficient way to get fit and healthy. They are beyond simple to prepare, make multiple servings to save or for your week, are comforting and warming in the cooler months and are packed with nutrients that cultivate a healthy body inside and out.
