Today we’ve partnered with popular neighborhood grocer Sunset Foods to bring groceries to the doorsteps of Chicago suburbanites. Instacart is now delivering groceries from Sunset Foods to the suburbs of Long Grove, Libertyville, Highland Park, and Lake Forest, and by the week of October 28th will also include the suburb of Northbrook.

We are also offering our “Click and Collect” service with Sunset Foods. This means that for only an extra $1.99, customers can place their orders online and have the groceries picked for them in the store and ready for pickup within the hour timeslot they choose.

Sunset Foods even offers Curbside Pickup at all 5 locations, which means customers can simply pull up to the curb, give the clerk their last name and tell them they are there to pick up their eGrocer order. The clerk then retrieves the order and loads it in the customer’s car, without the customer ever needing to set foot outside of the vehicle. For busy families going back and forth from school pickups, soccer practices, piano lessons and other daily errands, this new feature is a major timesaver and convenience.

Chicago was the second we launched after San Francisco and it has grown tremendously in the last year. Instacart will be doubling its Personal Shopper fleet for Chicago in the next two months to keep up with demand, with deliveries growing rapidly in the last four weeks alone. This expansion into the Chicago suburbs will more than double the square miles that Instacart currently serves in the Chicago area.

“Sunset Foods is a terrific local neighborhood store, and one that our customers have been asking us to add to our growing list of grocers,” said Chicago City Manager Scott Holloway. “We’re excited to reach some major suburbs where Chicagoans have been clamoring to see our grocery delivery service in their neighborhood. For young families and busy executives working very long hours, grocery delivery to their doorstep, or pickup at the store or even curbside, is a tremendous convenience. We will continue to expand in the Chicago area to meet the need of fresh groceries delivered quickly, hassle-free.”

“We were thrilled to partner with Instacart so we can reach more customers who may not have the time to always make it down to our stores, but want their favorite brands and quality produce they’ve come to expect from Sunset Foods,” said Steve Erl, e-Commerce Coordinator at Sunset Foods. “Now residents in these major suburbs have great options including delivery, pickup at store, or at curbside, so they can always fit getting groceries from Sunset Foods into their busy schedules.
