How long does the program take? How is the program structured? How will I be tested? These are just some of the questions students ask before deciding which program is right for them.

By now, you’ve probably already checked out our two tracks- web development and design — and want to know more about the student experience. In this blog post, we attempt to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about what to expect from a Bloc program.

How long does it take to complete a Bloc program?

Bloc’s programs are self-paced. That means our students get to decide the speed in which the complete the program. Some students choose to treat their Bloc program like a part-time job and dedicate roughly 15–25 hours per week. This pace allows them to complete the program in about 8 months. Others choose to pursue the program full time (30–50 hours) and graduate in about 4 months. While there’s no maximum, we do require students to commit at least 12 hours per week. Our admissions counselors will help you figure out what pace is right for you!

How does the curriculum work?

Both the Web Developer Track and Designer Track contain four modules. Students complete the modules sequentially meaning that they do not move to the next module until they completed the previous. You can find the list of modules for each program using the links below:

What does it take to complete a module?

Unlike most courses you’ve taken that contain just a few opportunities — a midpoint examination and then a final examination perhaps — to demonstrate your mastery of a subject, Bloc’s modules test student’s knowledge regularly — giving them more opportunities for feedback and improvement.

Each module contains a set of checkpoints. Each checkpoint covers a specific subtopic of the module and students can expect to complete a set of readings, mini assignments and a project before moving to the next checkpoint. Students receive detailed feedback from Bloc’s team of grading mentors on every assignment and project.

After completing every checkpoint in the module, students take a technical assessment where they have the opportunity to show what they’ve learned. The technical assessment which generally takes 30 minutes to an hour is structured just like a real job interview or client meeting. That format ensures Bloc students have ample interview experience by the time they graduate.
