At Bloc, our grading team is essential to our student’s success. Throughout both the Designer Track and Web Developer Track, students have their projects and code reviewed by industry experts. These professionals provide detailed feedback and suggestions within 24 hours to help students improve their skills and move through the program at a fast pace.

We sat down with our grading team lead, Niki, to learn more about the grading team and what they do!

What does the grading team do daily? Walk us through a day-in-the-life of a grading team member.

As the grading team lead, my day probably looks a bit different than the rest of the team. I usually start the day by looking at the grading queue and jumping on any checkpoints that are approaching our 24-hour deadline. After that, I usually check emails and answer questions in slack from graders. The rest of my day is usually filled with meetings and projects that revolve around improving the grading experience for both graders and students. Oh, and hiring! Lots of hiring and training new graders!

How does the grading team help students improve skills throughout the program?

The grading team is here to help ensure our students have a deep understanding of concepts that our courses dive into. We help students troubleshoot and think through a set of challenging and fun assignments and projects. This happens via code reviews, design reviews, and quizzes to check for understanding and mastery.

What makes the Bloc grading team unique?

Our grading team is made up of a dedicated team of experienced designers and developers from all over the world! This helps us bring lots of different levels of experience and perspective to students.

How many code/design reviews are there throughout the program?

This really depends on what program you are enrolled in. Each program has several. For the Designer Track, there are 3 design challenges in the DT fundamentals and assessments at the end of each project and portfolio. In addition, the DT program has daily design reviews that you can submit your work to get detailed feedback from our program director.
