It is no secret that technology is changing the way that nonprofits run. Tech helps NGOs achieve their missions at more scale and create greater impact. However, many nonprofits are not aware of the benefits that investing in appropriate software and tech tools can bring to their organization. Having a laptop at every desk is not enough!

Technology cannot solve all of the problems, but with the correct tools, you can help your employees work smarter. Although New Story is a nonprofit, it functions just like any other company. We need tech tools to manage our workflow and donors, increase productivity, and streamline and improve all of our operations and processes. At New Story, we are all about maximizing our team’s potential with technology.

Below are three areas in which technology can help your organization create bigger impact:

Donor Management

Fundraising is hard. Imagine having to search through different spreadsheets for a donor’s email address, how much was donated to a specific campaign, or who has donated more than once in the past year? How you engage with your donors is key in any nonprofit. It’s important to have the appropriate donor management software to track your donors’ contact information and manage all donations in an efficient way to improve your organization’s fundraising efforts.

Data Accessibility

Nonprofits have an immense amount of data that they have to keep track off. Having all of your data available in one place is necessary to forward your mission and serve your beneficiaries. At New Story, we don’t only track donor data, but we also track home construction milestones, community progress, family profile information, surveys for impact data, to name a few. This helps us dive deeper and understand how we can end survival mode living.

Project Management and Team Collaboration

This area is especially important to New Story considering that we are a small team that has team members in San Francisco and Atlanta, but also needs to oversee the work from our local partners in the countries that we work in. Project management software helps nonprofits plan and execute projects that require collaboration from different departments to make sure that everyone is on track. We value transparency and team communication, therefore having tools that facilitate communication and sharing of information are essential in allowing our team to work efficiently and helps to keep us accountable.
