Canadians love electronic payments. Debit cards, credit cards, e-transfers, EFTs— it’s hard to imagine a world without them.
But as we rush headlong into a more convenient future, we can’t forgot one important fact: money is freedom.
Money pays for food. It pays the rent. It pays for transportation to get to work so we can earn more. And while electronic payments have made spending and receiving money a heck of a lot more convenient, they’ve also made us utterly and completely dependent on our financial institutions: 90% of the value of all payments flows through an intermediary.
We believe that cryptocurrency represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make our financial system more fair and democratic.
Cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin and Ethereum, offer an opportunity to push back against excessive centralization.
Cryptocurrency is like the internet of money. No one person or organization controls it, you can send it around the globe in minutes, and transactions cost the same whether you’re sending $5 or $5MM (usually pennies).
But, let’s be frank: for all its promise, crypto is still way too difficult to get your hands on in Canada.
We intend to change that.
So, what is Newton?
Newton is a zero-commission cryptocurrency trading platform — if you want Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin (with more coming soon), you can buy it from us. If you want to convert your cryptocurrency to Canadian dollars, we’ll buy it back.
Adding funds is as easy as linking Newton to your bank account. Once you’ve bought cryptocurrency, you can move it to your own wallet or leave it with us.
Newton is about simplicity. We’ve focused all of our efforts on building the best mobile app possible (but don’t worry, Apple Watch fans — we’ve got you covered).
As of today you can sign up at newton.co to reserve your spot in our beta program. We’ll be sending out invites in batches starting next month.
Let’s take back control of our money.
