Starting today, you can trade four new coins on Newton: Ripple’s XRP, Stellar Lumens (XLM), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and USD Coin (USDC). Buy and sell prices for all the coins we offer are listed on our new Coin Prices page.
The introduction of USD Coin marks the first time that a Canadian platform has provided a direct CAD pairing with a reputable, USD-backed stablecoin. For example, here are a competitor’s convoluted instructions for obtaining USDC. On Newton, you can simply deposit CAD and purchase USDC.
USD Coin was created as a consortium effort between Coinbase and Goldman Sachs-backed Circle. It offers a great complement to its more volatile crypto-brethren and is backed by USD reserves, resulting in a price that closely tracks the US dollar.
Unlike the typically thin order books for altcoins you’ll find at Canadian exchanges, we only offer coins for which we can provide tight spreads and significant liquidity. Whether you’re buying BTC or XLM, the spreads quoted on our Coin Prices page are good for up to 3 BTC (or an appropriate equivalent in the specific coin), with additional liquidity filling at slightly wider spreads.
