Introduction

With the fast expansion of the internet, the security and privacy of the Domain Name System (DNS) are becoming more and more crucial to businesses and individuals. For the DNS, blockchain technology has the potential to address important security and privacy issues due to its decentralized structure and immutability, among other things.

What is bDNS?

Generally, when we enter a website’s URL into an internet browser, the computer queries a DNS server for the website’s IP address. With the rise of blockchain, new modes of value exchange have emerged, most notably through tokenization, crypto-assets, decentralized applications (dapps), Web 3.0, or the Internet of Value. Blockchain DNS, however, is an example of a decentralized DNS. Blockchain TLDs — including. .crypto, .eth, .bit,.coin, and so on. — are not owned by a single central authority. Unlike regular DNS queries, bDNS lookup tables are distributed across a peer-to-peer network and employ a different technology than traditional DNS queries. Therefore, bDN are tokenized assets represented on the blockchain by NonFungible Tokens (NFT). As a result, they are mapped to other addresses on the network that users may access.

bDNS has a lot of benefits, including the ability to circumvent government censorship; this happens when a government orders all Internet Service Providers in a country to stop redirecting domains to a specific IP address. And to various types of attacks like Distributed Denial-of-service (DDoS) would be easily mitigated with bDNS.

Benefits of bDNS

  • Security, and Privacy: It provides for countering censorship by authorities and enhancement of. free speech in the internet
  • Confidentiality: Blockchain DNS enables querying any node on the network, reducing centralization and SPF (single point of failure).
  • Availability: a decentralized, peer-to-peer network cannot be shut down. This could be used to place or enhance Anycast infrastructures.
  • Integrity: By definition, the consensus procedure of a Blockchain ensures the data’s integrity. Additionally, the data cannot be altered. These characteristics would obviate the necessity for DNSSEC.

bDNS Application in Enhancing Free Speech

At the moment, the internet is faced by various concerns and problems at every layer. The majority of these challenges, such as transparency, data integrity, freedom of expression, data privacy, and security, are inextricably linked to the internet’s current multilayered integrated centrality, from the client-server communication structure to Public Clouds and Cloud-based applications. The internet must be revitalized by developing a more flexible and scalable internet architecture capable of addressing these problems and incorporating a greater spectrum of capabilities to enhance freedom of speech and opinion.

The bDNS was introduced to solve these inherent internet issues, most importantly censorship of divergent views and voices, with bDNS, provided by bDNS giants like NexBloc, which uses a trustless Omnichain Interoperability protocol. This new industry-standard approach enables trustlessly direct transactions across all chains, allowing transactions to flow freely between blockchains. This will enable users to consolidate fragmented pockets of liquidity while also making full use of applications on separate blockchains.
