Introduction

Maintaining safety and privacy in the digital world can be challenging. However, individuals and organizations may make efforts to safeguard themselves in today’s digital environment against technology-assisted breaches and data abuse. Data are critical in this day and age. It is said to be the new oil or the new gold due to its high value. Today, anyone who possesses sufficient data, whether it is consumer data, business analytics data, market data, or anything else, is considered wealthy. Though, you are only wealthy if you understand how to utilize that data for your business or personal use. Therefore, the protection of such information and data has become critical. Along with corporate data, there is a great deal of private data such as user personal information, passwords, bank information, and credit card data that must be kept exceedingly secure. So for the sake of a more secure digital world, we must first comprehend what data security is.

Data Security

Data security is the process of safeguarding data from unwanted access, corruption, or theft. It can also be seen as protection of digital data from illegal access, use, disclosure, modification, and destruction. It encompasses all aspects of data security, from the physical security of hardware and storage devices to administrative and access controls and the logical security of software applications. When implemented appropriately, strong data security procedures safeguard an organization’s information assets from cybercriminal activity, insider threats, and human mistakes, which continue to be major drivers of data breaches today. Data security entails implementing tools and technology that increase people or organization’s visibility into the location and usage of sensitive data.

Why is Data Security Important?

According to Cybersecurity Ventures report, the cost of damages caused by data breaches worldwide was estimated to a total of $6 trillion in 2021.

Data is a precious asset that each individual and business create, acquire, store, and exchange. Protecting it against internal or external corruption and unauthorized access safeguards an individual or business against financial loss, reputational damage, erosion of consumer trust, and brand erosion. Moreover, data is an organization’s most important asset; it encompasses transactions, knowledge, communications, databases, and infrastructure. Therefore, protecting your data should be a priority regardless of any legal or regulatory restrictions.

Contribution of Data to a Safer World

  • Better access to data while maintaining privacy and corporate confidentiality is critical to ensuring a safer digital world for all of us.
  • Data can assist us in addressing some of society’s most pressing issues, such as climate change, inequality, global health, and economic resilience.
  • Data can be leveraged to empower the masses to affect political and economic change.
  • It is projected that COVID-19 mutations will spread rapidly by 2022 and that the power of data will be critical for mitigating their global effect.
  • Big data and IoT technologies are growing at a breakneck pace, enabling us to gather, prepare, analyze, anonymize, and disseminate pandemic-related data in quantities and at a rate previously imagined.

NexBloc provides a user-configurable on-chain endpoint for running an Ultra-Light Node (ULN). This degree of security is accomplished by doing the same validation as an on-chain light node by receiving and validating each block header for each paired chain on the opposing chain. Rather than storing all block headers sequentially, decentralized oracles broadcast block headers on demand. This method forwards and validates transaction proofs, including messages on the chain against the block headers. This is the most secure method of communicating across chains.
