If you have a NexiGo webcam and want to look your best in your next Zoom call, we’re here to help.

Today we’re going to discuss how to use the NexiGo Webcam Settings app, a free software tool that lets you adjust how your NexiGo webcam looks. While all of our cameras are plug-and-play, this software lets you have full control over things like brightness, saturation, exposure, and more.

Installation

To download the latest version of our webcam software, head to nexigo.com/software. Indicate whether you want to download the Mac or Windows version of the app.

Select the “Download” link beside your preferred version.

Once you have successfully downloaded the NexiGo software and plugged in your webcam, you’re ready to go! After opening the app, select your NexiGo webcam from the dropdown menu if it isn’t selected by default.

Be sure to open your camera app (Camera on Windows or PhotoBooth on Mac) or click the “Preview” button before you begin making changes.

Making Adjustments

The first tab on the left-hand side is called Adjustments. Here you can change basic settings like brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue. Make adjustments by dragging the slider left and right or by inputting a number into the text boxes.

Making adjustments with the slider

Keep in mind that some settings are blocked on certain NexiGo webcams. The N60, for example, doesn’t have the ability to adjust its hue or backlight compensation in the NexiGo software. Here’s a chart that explains the capabilities (and limitations) of most of our webcams.

Adjustment Settings: Explained

Are you feeling confused about how all these settings work? There are lots of them, so it’s normal to feel intimidated. Here are a few tips to get you started:

Step 1: Adjust white balance

Adjusting the white balance is a good place to begin. If your image looks too orange or too blue, a small adjustment to the white balance makes the video feed appear more natural by ensuring the colors are more true-to-life.

Step 2: Adjust saturation over hue

Hue modifies the overall color drastically, so try not to mess with this one too much unless you’re trying to look blue or purple. Meanwhile, saturation determines how intense your colors are. Does your face look too washed out in the video feed? Saturation can add more color back into your lips and cheeks.

Step 3: Adjust brightness

While this may be obvious, brightness lets you shine more light onto the image. Brightness is typically the first thing you would change if you have an issue with your video being too dark, or too bright and washed out. Let’s say there’s a window behind you; if that’s the case, backlight compensation can prevent overexposure from any intense light sources hitting the webcam’s sensor.

Step 4: Adjust sharpness to fix blur

Is your video feed looking a tad blurry? Sharpness can increase the detail of your image, smooth out the edges, and provide more texture to your face.

Don’t be afraid to reset to the default settings

But if you feel like you went too far in a few places, you can press the Defaults button to put all your settings back to normal. So go ahead and play with them a bit so you can feel more comfortable with what they do, with the confidence of knowing that you can always press the undo button.

Advanced Tab

In the Advanced tab, you can change more powerful settings like pan, tilt, and zoom. These settings let you properly frame the image so you’re always nicely centered in every video call.

Adjusting “Pan” can center you on the screen.

Limitations

Many of our webcams don’t have access to these settings. If you’re wondering if your webcam has these capabilities, remember that only webcams with digital zoom can use the PTZ settings in the Advanced tab.

Meanwhile, only our autofocus webcams let you adjust the focus in the app. Manual focus webcams can be adjusted without the app. You’ll have to move a certain distance away from a fixed focus camera before you achieve full clarity.

Saving Presets

Once you have all your settings just right, you can set a preset profile. That way, you won’t have to go back and change your settings each time you use your webcam.

Creating Presets

To save a preset, enter a name for your current settings in the “preset as”. Make sure not to use any special characters or spaces so that your preset saves properly. You can use numbers in your preset name.

Recalling Presets

When you need to recall a preset, go down to the “preset” dropdown menu, select your desired preset, and press “Load”.

Switching presets

Note: Presets settings aren’t transferable between different webcams, so you’ll need to make multiple presets if you have multiple NexiGo devices.

Deleting a preset

To permanently delete a preset, select it from the dropdown menu and click “Del”.

Using the NexiGo Software in Zoom

One of the best reasons to save your presets is so your webcam settings look pristine before you even start using your video apps. So whether you need to be on Zoom or Microsoft Teams for an important meeting, or you’re chatting with family through FaceTime or Skype, the NexiGo webcam software helps you stay prepared for any situation.

You can always keep the NexiGo app open while you’re on Zoom, Teams, or Skype. The easiest way is to keep the NexiGo app open on the right side of your screen during your meeting, just in case you need to make a few adjustments midway through the call. Remember to make sure the camera is only open in one app at a time. Otherwise, your webcam’s video feed won’t appear.

And while there are plenty of video calling apps out there, we are going to focus on Zoom calls as it’s the most popular, but most video apps function similarly to Zoom anyways.

Tips for improving your videos on Zoom

  • Use HD resolution. Zoom’s default resolution is set at 720p. To increase your resolution to 1080p, click the up arrow beside the Stop Video button, and select the very last option, Video Settings. Clicking on the HD checkbox will upgrade your video to 1080p.
  • Apply filters for a confidence boost. There’s some minor editing that you can do in the Video Settings tab. For example, you can touch up your appearance with the adjustable slider, which puts a filter to soften your face and helps to reduce blemishes.
  • Adjust lighting. Still not happy with your lighting? You can adjust for low light in automatic mode, or manually drag the slider from left to right to find your preferred brightness level.
  • Upgrade your background. In the Background & Effects tab from your Video Settings menu, it will give you the option to blur the background, use one of the many backdrops they provide, or you can even upload your own custom picture!
