Next Gen’s August Webinars
We just wrapped up a spectacular August of LIVE! Webinars. Every week, we go live on the Next Gen Summit Facebook page for informative, educational, and enjoyable conversations with expert leaders across fields to learn about their individual journeys and tactics.
We kicked off August with branding guru Rich Keller. Rich was the Global Vice President of Branding, Strategy, and Innovation for Godiva, where he learned how to brand chocolate to differentiate it from other chocolate brands. He is now a personal branding consultant, helping entrepreneurs and influencers summarize their personal brands in one word. In our conversation, he shared the eight factors to consider when transforming your product into a brand. All of the points were riveting, and he drove home why branding is so important when he said: “brands linger.” In other words, products have a finite lifespan, but consumers return to a store because of the brand long after they’ve finished using the product.

The following week, XRC Labs’ Principal Rima Reddy came on to discuss the accelerator and investment program she runs, and what founders should keep in mind when applying to such cohorts. It was intriguing to get an inside look at what investors look for — down to specific red flags, do-diligence processes, and so much more. My biggest takeaway was the advice that a founder should prove her/his/their startup has been scrappy and can continue to be; investors don’t like asks for a $50,000 investment to build an MVP that only requires $10,000. Do your research on how much operations and build would cost — in actuality — to ensure your ask is educated and ‘lean.’

Jolijt Tamanaha is the Director of Marketing at Fresh Prints, and she came LIVE! to share all about her favorite software, Zapier. At Fresh Prints, the team utilizes over 100 ‘zaps’ to automate their daily business. She gave this example: If someone orders a shirt, a ‘zap’ logs their birthday into their calendar and sends the order to the printing company. She’s found that it reduces the need to hire extra staff to help with miscellaneous administrative tasks. All that technical automation sounds intimidating, but it really isn’t too much — you don’t even need to know how to code!

We ended the month with a chat with Tiffany Pham, the CEO & Founder of Mogul. Tiffany’s second book, You Are A Mogul, is coming out next Tuesday, September 4th, and she joined us to tell early secrets about the book, which she says is “unlike any business book you’ve read before.” And truly, it seems to be; she gets real about the process of starting Mogul — a digital platform for women — which she coded on her own by learning on the fly. The story is remarkable, down to the millions of readers in Week One and the many accolades she has received since. Tiffany shares her inspirations and motivations that have guided her through life in this honest and uplifting conversation.
