Alissa Wilms, Working Student at the Porsche Digital Lab

As a student worker at Porsche Digital Lab, Alissa Wilms supports the team with a fresh perspective on Quantum Computing, the science and technology at play. She is currently enrolled at the Technical University of Berlin where she studies physics. Her areas of expertise are artificial intelligence and neural networks, two fields which have already contributed to significant developments and projects at Porsche. Approaching neural network development from a physicist’s perspective, rather than the usual computer scientist’s, helps the team consider new possibilities. One example of an AI application at Porsche Digital Lab is the Sound Detective, an AI that was powered by a neural network and was able to intelligently recognize the maintenance condition of a coffee machine based on the sounds emitted by its moving parts.

Outside the context of Porsche Digital Lab, Alissa is also active in journalism and a member of the German media association. In addition, she’s well known for her acting capabilities, having appeared in films such as 2008’s The Reader, 2016’s Bibi & Tina, and others. With her multifaceted work experience, Alissa shows just how beneficial student employment arrangements can be for innovation labs: She delivers new perspectives with fresh University learning to the team while also gaining valuable practical experience that would not be available anywhere else.
