The Summer Is Calling for Adventures: Five Magical Roads through Germany
Why look far afield when planning an adventure? Follow action-packed, adventurous routes through Germany with ROADS. Creator Marco Brinkmann presents five routes for an unforgettable summer and two new functions in Porsche’s ROADS app.
Summer is calling for adventures, evenings by the lake and wine tasting during sunsets — but this year, we won’t be making memories in countries that are far away from home. With regard to our own health and safety, we #stayhome.
But this does not mean that we cannot enjoy beautiful landscapes and discover secret places. For me, here in Germany, one thing is for sure: vacation in Porsche’s home country can offer all of this. From lush vineyards and clear lakes to mountains, wide beaches, and quiet islands, the country has a lot to offer that is easy to reach by car. The only obscurity is: where exactly should you go, and which routes are the best?
In this case, ROADS by Porsche is at your service. The free iOS app is home to a global community of passionate drivers who discover, record and share the world’s most beautiful driving routes.
ROADS by Porsche has unique routes ready, which lead past picturesque landscapes around the countryside, navigate you through winding roads, and, depending on your mood, leave plenty room for exploring the region on your own. Here, I have gathered a selection of five routes in Germany to make sure your summer never gets boring:
1. The Inner Circle
Forget traffic noise, stagnant heat, and full outdoor pools: The Inner Circle takes drivers through the breath-taking landscape outside of Berlin. Meandering roads lead through the surrounding fields and forests, past numerous lakes, Havel, and Spree. With an average duration of about six hours, this trip to the countryside is perfect for a weekend.
2. Wine and Wild West
A wine on a mild summer evening — so easy to have and yet so beautiful. The Wine and Wild West route keeps its promises. It leads from the Rhineland to the Moselle and back, starting on wide and well-maintained roads, you’ll soon drive on narrow and more winding roads near the wine-growing area. In the Eifel region, you will briefly pass the legendary Nürburgring — depending on your model and mood, drivers should plan a little more time here. Along the vineyards in the direction of the Rhine, the trip starts to get adventurous: in the tranquil village of Boppard, you have to take the ferry. The wine estates along the way are certainly worth staying for a few (more) days. Are you ready for an adventurous weekend?
3. The Enchanted South
With the combination of the Black Forest and Lake Constance, The Wild South route offers everything you need for a breath-taking trip. With every bend, you wander deeper into the Black Forest, past dams, and waterfalls. The route is quite dynamic and intensive. Towards Lake Constance, the curves become gentler again, and after Meersburg, you can take the ferry. The journey through the Swabian Alb also offers a lot of scenery. After passing Hohenzollern Castle (the ideal place to make a stop), the journey concludes via Tübingen back to the Stuttgart region, summing up 358 kilometers. Prepare yourself for some of the most beautiful views in Germany’s south.
4. Stettenfels Castle
Here comes a route for adrenaline junkies. If you’re in for a short but fun trip, take the Stettenfels Castle. Starting in Zuffenhausen where the Porsche headquarters are located, you take the mostly unlimited A81 northbound to Stettenfels Castle. When it‘s sunny, the Breitenauer See invites to relax. After the last stop in Oberstenfeld, which is not stingy with winding alleys and picturesque vineyards, you return to Stuttgart. 148 kilometers, about 2 ½ hours, endless fun.
5. The Water of Bavaria
Finally, off to Allgäu! This route through Bavaria offers numerous breath-taking stops. At the beginning, the Water of Bavaria route follows the ridge of the Alps in slight curves, passing the Chiemsee lake on the left. After a short motorway passage, winding roads await you, which lead past the Tatzelwurm waterfalls to the Schlier See. The track up to the Sylvensteinsee requires high concentration, but you will be rewarded with epic stops at various lakes until you return home via the historic Andechs Monastery. It’s simply beautiful!
If this isn’t enough inspiration, I invite you to browse through hundreds of other phenomenal routes on ROADS and become part of the community. It’s free of charge. New features in ROADS: Group tours and Air Quality Index
Just this week, we added two new features to ROADS for an even better driving experience:
- With the ‘Tours’ feature, ROADS users can now experience their passion for driving as a group even better. The new feature enables you to easily organize joint trips with other passionate drivers.
- In collaboration with the startup ClimaCell, we launched the ‘Air Quality Index’ (AQI), which provides simplified information on the air quality of your route. The AQI helps to decide whether to close the windows, open the roof or if necessary, postpone the trip.
