Our weekly series #foundersfriday presents collaborations and investments between Porsche and startups — explained in a nutshell. Today: Turo.

Background

Whether on a business trip, at festivities or to simply treat yourself: who wouldn’t want to rent a dream car at unbeatable conditions in an uncomplicated way? Therefore, Porsche Digital, Inc. launched a new sharing offer as a pilot programme in the USA. “Porsche Host” is a peer-to-peer car sharing system which was developed in cooperation with Turo. The service provides short-term access to Porsche vehicles owned by private individuals and thus gives customers in Los Angeles and San Francisco the opportunity to drive a Porsche flexibly without actually buying or leasing one. The programme is the next step in the development of new mobility concepts after “Porsche Passport” was introduced last year.

“Partnerships with innovators like Turo are the key to ensuring that we can turn our vision into reality and deliver completely new Porsche experiences to our customers,” says Thilo Koslowski, CEO of Porsche Digital, Inc. And he adds: “Working with our partners enables us to develop new mobility offerings and business models.”

Why Turo

Founded in 2009, the carsharing company Turo is headquartered in San Francisco. Turo is a pioneer of the Sharing Economy in the travel industry and a safe community of dedicated members, in which the individuality of the cars is an essential part of the adventure. Via a special platform, great cars can be rented wherever and whenever users would like to drive them — a vibrant community of local Porsche owners makes it possible. This provides a unique range of models that is far more exclusive than at conventional car rental companies. Besides that, the programme allows owners to let their cars earn money for them.

“Working with Porsche is a fantastic opportunity to reach a large number of interested parties through our marketplace,” says Andre Haddad, CEO of Turo. “I have always been a Porsche fan myself and enjoy the feeling of handing over the keys to my own 911 to another Porsche connoisseur for a short time”.
