Big Data opens the door to new services and business models that enhance the driving experience for our customers. With Porsche Connect Partner Services, we allow third-party providers to develop new services based on vehicle data to improve the digital experience of Porsche drivers. Manfred Wiedemann who is working for the Smart Mobility Sales, Processes & Direct Sales team of Porsche and as project lead of Porsche Connect Partner Services, explains the benefits of the new platform.

Over many years, an analogy has persistently established itself, but it quickly leads astray: Data would be the oil of the 21st century. Just as the processing of oil in the first half of the 20th century produced new materials such as nylon or gasoline, the thinking goes, the same seems to be true now with the processing of large amounts of data.

Fortunately, unlike oil, data is not a finite resource. It is more of a growing medium from which many new things can flourish. If properly processed and maintained, data provides new insights and services to enable new business models. Again and again, new things can emerge from the same data when it is linked to further information and reprocessed.

We want to offer data-driven services with the highest priority on data protection

Our customers benefit from new offers such as vehicle insurance based on actual kilometers driven — all in compliance with the strictest data protection requirements.

Thanks to digital networking, modern Porsche vehicles generate a large amount of data. Our Porsche Connect service acts as a digital co-pilot, making driving even more comfortable and modern. For example, routes can be conveniently planned via the smartphone and sent to the Porsche infotainment system. In addition, new services can be booked on an ongoing basis — over-the-air — without the need for a workshop visit. Driving a Porsche thus becomes even more individual and can be constantly adapted to changing needs.

The new Porsche Connect Partner Services now take us one step further. Via the platform, third-party providers can now also develop digital services that work based on vehicle data. This makes our offering even more tailored to drivers and their vehicles. In the process, our customers benefit from new offers such as vehicle insurance based on actual kilometers driven, smarter parking services or a fully data-based logbook — all in compliance with the strictest data protection requirements, the minimum of which is set by the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in the USA.

New possibilities such as digitalized driver’s logbook or insurance claims processing in record time

Data protection is a top priority for Porsche and Porsche Connect Partner Services. The customer always has sovereignty over their data and can decide which service providers receive access to the vehicle data and for what purpose. The data gets only shared with the service providers after explicit approval, and the customer can revoke this approval at any time. The added value that Porsche Connect Partner Services creates for Porsche drivers is already visible in the three winners of the Porsche Data Cup, which presented their projects on the Startup Autobahn innovation platform last July.

Porsche Connect Partner Services will launch in multiple European countries

Porsche Connect Partner Services will initially be launched offering a wide range of services in various European countries with the support of our partners High Mobility and Caruso Dataplace. A further rollout in the USA followed by other markets is already in the planning. This new offer allows customers to take full advantage of the digital capabilities of their Porsche, should they choose to do so. With Porsche Connect activated, this option will be available at launch in the Taycan, Cayenne and 911 models, with other models to follow.

With Porsche Connect Partner Services, Porsche has prepared the soil on which new, visionary products can grow from the potential of big data — securely and with the highest data protection standards. The journey has just started: Porsche is constantly searching for further partnerships in the frame of Connect Partner Services to create special benefits for sportscar drivers together.
