Welcome to Insight Studio Edition 3 !

Hey guys! This time we are going to talk about the most expensive ads in United States — Super ball commercials. And after watching all the ads, I got some interesting points to share.

Before start, some of you may do not familiar with super bowl and its commercials. According to wikipedia,

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL). The game is the culmination of a regular season that begins in the late summer of the previous calendar year.

The U.S. television broadcast of the Super Bowl — the championship game of the National Football League (NFL) — features many high-profile television commercials, colloquially known as Super Bowl ads. The phenomenon is a result of the game’s extremely high viewership and wide demographics.

Super Bowl commercials have become a cultural phenomenon of their own alongside the game itself; many viewers only watch the game to see the commercials, national surveys (such as the USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter) judge which advertisement carried the best viewer response, and CBS has aired yearly specials since 2000 chronicling notable commercials from the game.

So, super bowl ads have become iconic and well — known and marketers always looking forward to look this ads along with the game . The super bowl ads covers many categories about industries . I will pick one as my favorite and one as my least like one to share.

David Harbour Stars in Tide’s Big Game Ad

Last year, Tide’s Big Game ad from Saatchi & Saatchi centered around Terry Bradshaw’s epic shirt stain.

This year, Tide announced actor David Harbour would star in the brand’s Super Bowl ad. Harbour, best known for his portrayal of Sheriff Jim Hopper in Netflix’s Stranger Things, announced his role in a YouTube video released by Elite Daily. He will aslo be taking over for Bradshaw as Tide’s spokesperson.

The spot sees Harbour tackle a series of ad cliches, before revealing they all have something in common.

I believe that all the ads on super bowl already been very successuful and huge spending, I still lost interets when I was watching the 3rd ad. This told us that it is extremly hard to keep people’s attention. But Tide succcefully catch my attention and I summazired few points about why Tide doing great among other ads for the following reasons.

  • Rather than talk about their product and function, Tide choose a totally new perspective to touch the heart of the customers. Tide never talk their function becuase everyone know the thefunction is to clean clothes. It is not hard to tell the facts, it is hard to let customers tell the function by themselves. And it is exactly what Tide did, when you see a clean clothes, it is the contribution of Tide.
  • Dare to include other brands and make them own. Normally, company does not willing to spend time on other brands during the commercial, but Tide does the opposite way. During the 30 seconds, many brands and catogoies appear such as car, beer, amazon echo, and etc. This is smart is because there must be person in the commerical and people must wearing clothes. Though from 30s, you may feel Tide waste some time on other brands or products, at larger scale, Tide irrefutablely makes all super bowl commercials become Tide’s ad.

Jeep Drops Thrilling Super Bowl Ad

Super Bowl fans saw a thrilling Jurassic Park-themed ad from Jeep tonight, complete with Jeff Goldblum and a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Here are few points that I think Jeep might need to improve.

  • The scene is too ordinary. When we think about Jeep, we easily connect the car with outdoor activity, and because there is a word among the title — Jurassic. So it is not hard for people to have a general image about what will happen during the ad. This decrease the curiosity of the customers.
  • The ad does not show the function of Jeep properly. When Jeep is chasing by dinosaur, I thought Jeep will leave dinosaur far behind. But oppositely, Jeep follows dinosaur till the ad end, and this is not logical.
  • There are too much useless detailed scenes. For example, the splash of water when driving through, the expression of the actors, and etc. These time can be used to add more valuable information to make the ad better.

These are only my personal opinions, and I am more than happy if you would love to leave commons and your ideas.

Recently, I will conduct some reaserch about the key points for good ads and try to evaluate super bowls one by one in the later blogs. Hope you will feel interesting and have something to take away:)
