In software development, domain experience and awareness sometimes plays a bigger role than you can imagine. Not only can it help you understand your client better but, what’s even more important, it allows you to design truly usable systems and make the right technology choices.

Having over 10 years of financial tech experience, that’s what we do with our team at NextApps. We help early-stage endeavours develop, order and manage their financial product backlog. And if you’ve ever created a scope for an application, you know how tricky it can be, especially if you’re dealing with innovations.

Some of the examples of high-end financial products we developed with and for our clients include:

  1. mobile currency exchange applications,
  2. biometric identification for financial kiosks,
  3. mobile repository to store electronic receipts or a
  4. machine learning module to validate credit card information with a single photo.

How does our domain knowledge help us deliver on time and in budget?

First of all, thanks to our experience with building hybrid applications for Santander Bank, we had a good head start when it came to making a mobile version of a Polish leading online currency exchange.

Make smart technology choice

Usually, when a company wants to reach out to their customers through mobile, they hire two separate teams of iOS and Android developers. That’s not always a good idea. Bigger systems with frequent information updates such as currency exchange platforms or e-commerce stores require a smarter approach.

The application we built helped our client save even one year of work! It’s fully operational and receives high 4.8 scores both in Google Play and AppStore.

Introduce biometric innovation fast

Only 2 months to make iOS and Android applications for face recognition? Why not!? Financial applications require multi-level security. Bank IT managers know it best. A way to ensure it is to implement convenient ways of user identification. It is used in financial services offices as an additional identity verification when a contract is signed. We implemented it as a part of a self-service financial kiosk in only 2 months.

Design a product roadmap for a pioneering project

One of the projects we’re currently working on is a repository of digital receipts. The idea is outrunning the legislation which makes it quite a challenge, especially if you’re a startup with no technical co-founder. But that’s what pioneers do. We’ve helped develop a scalable and secure cloud architecture as well as define the scope for the first version of the product with BLE/NFC payments and integration with POS systems. We’re looking forward to launching the mobile applications in Google Play and App Store.

Deal with enterprise-level solutions

Banking background gave us a lot of credibility when we started working with retail chains on optimising their factoring and invoicing solutions. With thousands of documents processed every day, our clients needed a partner who understood their challenges as well as the consequences of bad decisions. Luckily, we were able to coin a flexible process that resulted in bringing significant money savings by identifying leaks and eliminating vulnerabilities in systems used by hundreds of employees.

Conclusion

Thanks to our banking IT background, we understand the importance of security and robustness of financial applications and their integrations with external systems (e.g. payment operators).
