The Facebook-owned social media platform WhatsApp rolled out a new feature last year, in late October. Delete For Everyone is a function that allows you to delete the message you have send to someone in your contacts or WhatsApp group by mistake. The feature is available on Android, iPhone, and Windows operating systems.

Over one billion users’ of WhatsApp are enjoying the new feature. But are they sure if the functioning of the tool is not entirely reliable?

Reports from The Next Web show that some users who know the shortcomings consider the feature hopeless. In case you send a message to one of your contacts or groups by accident, WhatsApp allows you within seven minutes to delete the message from your end, and the recipients end.

Some Faults Of Delete For Everyone Feature

One interesting thing with the delete for everyone function, WhatsApp does not explain what to do with the quoted messages in its frequently asked questions (FAQ) section.

Reports show that in case the messages you send by mistake were quoted by the recipients before you deleted, they will still show up. But, this is not a mistake; instead, it is part of the delete for everyone feature.

In this case, a quoted message is the one that you send, and someone highlighted and replied to it. The moment you delete that message before the seven minutes given by the app elapses, you will still see the highlighted and replied-to message that you send. This renders the feature unreliable to WhatsApp users.

Moreover, researchers from Spanish tech claim that the social media has several faults concerning the feature. One of the errors is the easy recovery of the deleted messages. Tracing of the message from the Android notification history is easy. This means that users who depend on third-party apps can just log in and read the erased messages.

However, a contradictory report from the Independent points out that this approach of message recovery is only possible if the recipient read the message.
