Artist Spotlight — Amrit Pal Singh
The Yorkshire novelist, Robert Dinsdale, in his widely celebrated work — ‘ The Toymakers ‘ quotes “Once upon a time, all of us, no matter what we’ve grown up to do or who we’ve grown up to be, were little boys and girls, happy with nothing more than bouncing a ball against a wall ”. To most of us out there the childhood memories are indeed timeless treasures.
In the seventh edition of the Artist Spotlight from the NFT Malayali Community, we have with us Amrit Pal Singh was dubbed as the toymaker of the Indian NFT space. Amrit Pal forges digital toys inspired by nostalgia and a childlike sense of wonder. He currently indulges in making Toy Faces and 3D Dioramas.
With an enticing array of client lists that includes Google, Netflix, Snapchat, Pinterest, FedEx, Ola, and many more, Amrit Pal’s career revolves around as a 3D Illustrator, Art Director, and Visual Artist with an immense love for plays, world cinema, and Nutella. Born from an idea of indulging in creative side-projects, Amrit brought together a team of like-minded people and built ‘ Mister Bumbles Interactive ‘ — a design and publishing firm focusing on storytelling and childlike wonder.
In his interview with the Indian Express, Amrit Pal, who has sold nearly 35 toy face designs added,
“The biggest boost I got from NFT was the value added to digital art. Earlier you would only hear about traditional art being auctioned off at such prices. NFTs have made it possible for digital art now to be collected. It has given my work a lot of exposure at a global level.
The first artwork holds good value because it’s your first. A lot of collectors want to collect this ‘Genesis piece’. But you have to learn the technology because it will really benefit you. The biggest challenge about NFT is you have to market yourself, you have to brand yourself. The marketplaces don’t necessarily promote artists,” Amrit Pal advises.
His art inspired by Daft Punk, the Parisian electronic music duo, Van Gogh, and Frida Kahlo has been swept up for 15, 3.7, and 3.9 ethereum respectively.
