Artist Spotlight — Kaloian Toshev
K. D. Lang interestingly quoted once that “ Art knows no prejudice, art knows no boundaries, art doesn’t really have the judgment in its purest form. “
Today in the ninth edition of the Artist Spotlight from the NFT Malayali Community, we are gassed up to present to everyone the first artist from the Republic of Bulgaria to sell his works in the form of NFT — Kaloyan Toshev, better and widely known as MZK in the metaverse.
With an extensive experience of over 17 years under his hood in digital art and illustrations, Kaloyan Toshev is a visual artist, illustrator, and designer. He seeks to find and explore the intersection of painting and technology.
Studying a little at the art academy and leaving it to find his own calling in the world of art, he today has participated in several exhibitions — including a solo, many online and physical publications, and interviews for many large clients.
Today his clientele encompasses Coca-Cola, Absolut, Audi, Heineken, Ballantine’s, Fast Company, Smirnoff, Sofbuild, and many more for whom he has designed cans, bottles, snowboards, longboards, all kinds of clothing, and so on, even wrapped a building while under construction.
In 2005, when his work was featured in DeviantArt, the biggest digital art community at that time, just a year after Kaloyan got his hands on his graphic tablet, he has never looked back. Today his works have been featured in Juxtapoz.com, Formfiftyfive.com, Awwwards.com, Designyoutrust.com, Deviantart.com, Awwwards.com, Behance.net, trendland.com, Illustration Served, Typography Served, Branding Served, and many more. The early works of MZK are filled with vector beauty and designs but around the year 2010, Kaloyan felt that the vector graphics were lacking the expression of the line and the ability to get really messy while drawing. This is how he made his debut with raster digital art and needless to say, MZK was hooked into the theme and value it carried. Soon he shifted from the vector graphics style and made the switch to raster digital art.
From digital agencies, MZK moved on to product companies catering to one of the best brands in the world from Wacom to Absolut to Sofbuild.
MZK went along to celebrate his first solo exhibition in 2013 powered by Absolut among others. The exhibition was covered by all major culture and art media in Bulgaria and more than 1000 people attended it on an opening day. It was held in VIVACOM art hall, one of the biggest galleries in Sofia at that time, and was the gallery’s most successful exhibition in terms of visitors.
MZK quotes “ it was maybe one of the best experiences I’ve had to date “.
NFT Artworks
In the metaverse, Kaloian Toshev has explored and indulged his audience with his NFTs in terms of the Simulacra Beauty. A simulacrum is a representation or imitation of a person or thing. MZK feels that the simulacra beauty traverses and inspects female beauty in the Metaverse where customizing one’s visual appearance in a distinctive and vibrant way is the norm. The works are crafted digitally with the help of a custom-built tool alongside 3D and 2D software which assists MZK to go deeper into the digital art and portray his narrative.
