Artist Spotlight — Prasad Bhat
In the third issue of the Artist Spotlight from the NFT Malayali Community, we present the caricature mastermind, Prasad Bhat. His fame and glory in the physical world have crossed over to the metaverse as well but his ‘ties’ to the Malayali community make us even more excited to have him with us. Known for his unique style of vector portraits and caricatures for over 13 years, his vibrant MO has helped him in landing a vast array of patrons, clients, and investors.
His story like most Indian narratives starts with him pursuing engineering on accounts of peer pressure & even graduating the same with a high percentage. But he always found his solace in art — a spot that allowed him to channel his anger, frustration, aspirations & creativity. They say behind every great man there’s a woman. The story of Prasad Bhat bears testimony to this adage in its complete essence. The timely advice from his partner led him to explore fields of creativity from being a graphic designer to stage/stall design for many premium Indian brands and finally to the establishment of Graphicurry — an independent Artist firm store and Design studio based out of Bangalore, India.
The rapid transpositions that happen in the art space have always caught the attention of Prasad Bhat. From abstracts to vector art to widely accepted caricatures, his style shouts out this aspect. The story of Prasad has always found a place several times in features of the Indian Express, Deccan Herald, Deccan Chronicles, Student Magazine, and Creative Gaga magazine as one of the most promising illustrators from India. Many online forums such as YourStory, Buzzfeed, BoredPanda, BlueGape, and several others graciously featured him as an artist with a unique style and uncommon appeal.
The Unique Ordeal of Caricature
What started as a sweet payback comedy to a buddy in a get-together one fine evening, Prasad’s distinctive caricatures resonated grandeur and were welcomed with great warmth.
“I was not really that good with words, my caricatures were my medium for social commentary as well..” Prasad smirks as he shares his narrative to Boho.
His work is loved, owned, and endorsed by celebrities like Russel Brand, Shahrukh Khan, Ajay Devgan, Russel Peters, Sunny Leone, Jahnvi Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and the list goes on and on.
Another quirky level up to this was his Evolution Series collection, wherein he reimagines different avatars of celebrated & prominent personalities, capturing them in mesmerizing and lively videos. These videos gift the audience a walk down memory lane with all the appearances as the unique facial features get all the spotlight in their signature Prasad Bhat way. Prasad was elated to create the Evolution of Mickey Mouse commissioned by Disney on Mickey’s 90th anniversary. His style has been very well received by millions and gone viral several times on various platforms like 9gag, Rolling Stones, Gizmodo, Reddit, and so on.
The Non Fungible Experience
Prasad Bhat entered the NFT market in March 2021. He sold 18 NFTs in the very first month at an average price of 0.77 ETH each. At the moment he is one of the spotlight creators in India’s NFT marketplace of WazirX as well.
