When the Process of Creating Art Is Art Itself
Salavat Fidai is a world-renowned sculptor-miniaturist from Russia who creates micro-sculptures on the tip of a pencil. His sculptures have been exhibited all over Europe, the U.S.A., Australia, Asia and Russia. He has worked with companies like HBO, 20th Century FOX, Universal, Warner Bros., Marvel and Disney, gaining over 13 million followers across his social media platforms. On 23rd August, Salavat will present his NFT artwork “Inside My Head” on NFT STARS, which will give viewers an understanding of what it takes to create micro-sculptures.
The process of creating a micro-sculpture is a meditation and an art form in itself. Before picking up any tools and starting to shape the sculpture, Salavat walks through the whole process in his head. He almost creates a 3D model of the future artwork with his imagination. When all pieces come together perfectly, he gets to work. On a 2mm to 5mm surface, Salavat creates a highly detailed sculpture. Over the years, he has learned to combine fragments from different color slates and paint graphite. Depending on the level of intricacy, these works of art can take the sculptor from 2 days to a month to make.
As a part of the creative process, Salavat regularly records himself creating his micro-sculptures through the eyepiece of a microscope. These videos have come together in the artwork “Inside My Head”. A compilation of more than 50 timelapse videos come to life in a matrix of 3D cubes, created in partnership with computer graphics artist Nick Kaverin.
“Inside My Head” is being put up for auction with a starting price of 2 ETH. By the end of the 24 hour bidding process, who knows what we’ll see. The first NFT Salavat presented for auction was “SATOSHI PEN”, which sold for 25 ETH.
The winning bidder will get the NFT “Inside My Head” and a physical micro-sculpture. Salavat is keeping secret which pencil tip sculpture the buyer will be given but promises it will “blow their mind”.
