For the past months, we’ve been working with artist Tom Sachs as a development team to create an immersive Metaverse experience for Rocket Factory.

It’s an outer space project that includes a collection of custom collectible NFTs, an interactive gamified journey, and a unique virtual experience in Decentraland developed by Voxel Architects.

We began the first stage of this project back in July 2021 with the launch of the first drop of Rocket Components. During this first iteration, users had to combine a series of limited components to create custom NFT Rockets.

We’re now entering a new phase in the project where collectors can take part in a quest-like NFT journey and get involved in a unique immersive Metaverse experience in Decetraland.

Building the entire technology from scratch for this project was an exciting challenge for our team.

We developed the custom smart contracts and the web platform, and with the help of the Voxel Architects team, we also created the 3D building, the collectible wearables, and an exclusive platform to mint the NFTs directly from Decentraland virtual world.

Where it all started

Last year, during the project’s first stage, we helped the Rocket Factory team create a collection of 3000 Rocket NFT components with 30 unique designs and varying rarity levels.

By combining Rocket parts, collectors could create up to 1000 custom assembled rockets with branded components.

Every assembled Rocket was given a unique name, and collectors could choose to create a physical sculpture of their NFTs handcrafted by Toms Sachs and get it launched in different cities across Europe and the US.

Taking Rocket Factory to a whole new world

For this new project iteration, we helped Tom Sachs update their web3 platform and put together a quest-like gamified journey involving Rocket Factory NFT assets.

To complement the existing Rockets, Components, and crew patches collection, Rocket Factory implemented a series of special NFT tickets that will allow collectors to access an immersive outer space experience designed by the Voxel Architects team.

But that’s not all. Together with Tom Sachs, we defined a progressive roll-out that will bring many more surprises for Rocket Factory community members that will be revealed throughout the following weeks.

Mars, here we go! 🚀

Creating an outer space experience in DCL

Tom Sachs wanted Rocket Factory to be not only a collection of NFT artworks but a whole interactive journey for the community.

We suggested involving Voxel Architects to create a custom Metaverse experience following Rocket Factory’s narrative and identity and offering an innovative approach for minting the new assets.

Our teams discussed different options and virtual worlds, and we concluded that Decentraland would be the most appropriate fit for the project.

After many back and forth talks, we defined a roadmap and started working on the web platform, the 3D environment, and the minting experience.

Collectors who own assembled rockets can now claim a special NFT ticket that will allow them to access the 3D Vertical Assembly Building in Decentraland created by Voxel Architects.

Users who don’t have a ticket won’t be able to take part in this experience.

Inside the building, users will be able to appreciate all the custom assets and environments designed by our digital architects and modelers for this project.

Visitors of the building in DCL will be able to walk through the space corridor and look up for the stars and planets orbiting around.

They will have the opportunity to claim a special smart wearable and embark on an exciting space mission set on Mars grounds.

The Rocket Factory building in DCL is inspired by the Vertical Assembly Building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Although, we had to downscale the construction to fit the project purpose and requirements.

For the interior, Voxel Architects created a visually impactful scenario with sci-fi-like features and a dome with dynamically changing environments with three different locations on Mars users can travel to.

Although the exterior resembles the actual building created by NASA, the virtual VAB in DCL also has a Tom Sachs-esque to it. So much so that the building itself feels like a work of the artist.

More details about the Decentraland experience will be revealed in the following weeks.

Pushing the limits of NFT technology

One of the most innovative features of this project is that users can mint the NFT assets directly from Decentraland instead of doing it from OpenSea or the Rocket Factory website.

This is the first time a project offers this type of experience in the Metaverse, allowing users to mint NFT collectibles directly from a virtual world.

We believe this will encourage new NFT endeavors to push the boundaries of what is possible with Ethereum technology.

The journey has just started

Working with Tom Sachs was a great and delightful experience for our team at NFT Studios. We are so glad to have the chance to work with such talented people and allow users to enjoy such a unique project in the Metaverse.

This is a new step in an incredible journey that began in 2021 and will continue to develop towards new horizons.

Stay tuned and get ready for what is coming!
