NFT3 Presents #DataLeaks 2 ft. WhatsApp, Twitter, Meta and more

We recently created a new content series called #DataLeaks,to raise awareness about a critical problem faced globally — the hacking, leaking, and unlawful distribution of user data.
And within a week of issue #1 of Data Leaks going out, we found out about the WhatsApp leak.
Hence we had no choice but to serve up another version to keep you alert, informed and aware. Here’s NFT3 Presents #DataLeaks issue #2.
487 million WhatsApp Users Compromised
In. A. Single. Leak.
It almost sounds unimaginable. Only, it’s true, sadly.
In what’s being dubbed as one of the biggest data breaches in history, a database of WhatsApp users was leaked online, with nearly 500 million users affected across 84 countries.
Twitter Leak: 5.4 Million Users Compromised
Unfortunately the WhatsApp story is not all. Twitter recently made the news (again) after the user records of 5.4 million people were shared for FREE online, after originally being on sale for $30,000.
LastPass Suffers 2nd Data Leak in 6 Months
Leading password security application, LastPass confirmed last week that they had suffered ANOTHER data leak — the second in 6 months!
In a classic example of how centralised databases fragilise user safety, this service that claims to be all you need to keep your passwords safe forever has become the very reason many users have had their data breached.
We sincerely hope that more such news does not surface any time soon, but the fact remains that data leaks are becoming the norm rather than anomalies.
Ultimately the only way to ensure you are protected against data breaches is a decentralised internet where user data is not kept in centralised servers, but with the users themselves. We are proud to say that this is what we are spending our time and energy building at NFT3.
