Artists need to know what DAGs are

Yeah, one more acronym, but I swear it’s worth learning

What is decentralization and why is it important?

Many of us are immersed in this ecosystem but we don’t always ask ourselves, “What is the best way to explain its importance?"

Decentralization is the process of distributing and dispersing the power of a central authority. Most financial and government systems are centralized, meaning that there is a single ultimate authority responsible for managing them, such as a central bank or state institutions. Well, most likely, you already know this concept and understand its importance, as well as you know that many institutions operate like that for a long time and we have grown adapted to this type of system. That is, decentralization is still a field that is being explored.

It couldn’t be different within the art industry; curators kept renowned artists visible and lesser-known artists spent a large portion of their career struggling to get their work into a gallery to earn recognition and a living. We know above all, that in underdeveloped — or developing — countries, these artists are even more forgotten because the socio-economic issue does not allow the government to support the cultural spheres.

"Arts and culture are consistent sources of economic growth, during both good and difficult economic times. Specifically, arts and culture policies and programs increase economic development in states by attracting businesses, creating new jobs, increasing tax revenues and promoting tourism." — NASAA Research

“The future of art is decentralized”

And allow me to disagree with the sentence above!

I believe that art is already decentralized. The decentralized blockchain-based World Wide Web already affects the art industry and museums in a positive way!

And last Wednesday, we held a Twitter Spaces with MetaSilk, and they introduced the concept of Decentralized Autonomous Gallery. But beyond that, MetaSilk connects artists globally, making web3 permeate the art field as a whole: comprehensively uniting cultures, creating communities, and embracing decentralization.

Thinking about the artists and — of course — the various use cases that NFTFY can create with a DAG, I invited the founder of MetaSilk to talk a little more about this concept and all the positive influence within the decentralized art market, which is supporting artists of different styles around the globe.

What is a DAG?

"MetaSilk defines a DAG as a Decentralized Autonomous Gallery that is governed by the very Collectors and Artists within the community. It is a harmonious blend of DAO technology mixed with a modernized art gallery that delivers a self-sustaining and growing ecosystem with checks and balances between the Collectors and Artists."

What does this mean for Collectors and Artists?

"Most importantly, this means you have control over the future success of the digital assets, brand, artists, and collectors!

When implemented correctly a DAG is a model for accelerated growth resulting in the increase in value of the digital assets for collectors and top artists being ethically supported Today and through their entire career!

As an example, Collectors & Artists have voting control over elements like:

- Future art acquisitions

- Artists introduced into the ecosystem

- Future partnerships

- Metaverse land development (Currently we are in Otherside and Fluxtopia)

- Price point of initial releases

and much more…

To ensure we create a globally inclusive DAG ecosystem, MetaSilk has traveled the world collecting traditional art from top Artists and is working with digital Artists from around the world to bring collectors the highest quality digital asset collaborations!

Additionally, MetaSilk is working towards partnering with a well respected marketplace to ensure the Collectors within the DAG are just as impressive as the Artists themselves!

We encourage you to explore our upcoming release Connecting Cultures and our White Paper to learn more about MetaSilk and how we are reshaping the art gallery industry."

Incredible isn’t it?

I found the idea of connecting cultures via a DAG ecosystem very fascinating. I keep imagining two artists collaborating from extremely different creative styles due to their uniquely different cultures and aesthetic references.

I would translate this connection as the fusion of cultures expressed in arts without barriers.

I hope all artists can still have their work recognized on web3, whether through DAGs, Crowdpads, or within other similar communities that support the arts!

Don’t forget we have a Cool Cats RockPool available!

Thank you for being with us on this journey of learning another new web3 expression.
