Most of the articles around this topic look at the hierarchy in an organization that creates the authority of the organization to act, when in fact most successful organizations are driven by a meritocratic model, and an authoritarian back-drop (when “shit hits the fan” you need to iterate fast on ideas with the top-tier minds/talent and make fast decisions not consensus — when you are executing on known goals and objectives you need consensus and distributed decision making of the details).

Knowing when to be in either camp is the hard thing — but you need both.
