Leaks and rumors in the tech world

Nowadays it’s quite common to be seeing the leaks which are common nearing a product launch and have somewhat become the movie trailer of physical devices, obviously they’re always sold to the general public as being something that was leaked by some employee of some company. I don’t really have any background on this matter but they’re more and more common and are usually on point, this is something that actually differs from rumors, which actually makes me believe that they’re not really leaks but instead is something that is released by the parent company and made to look like it’s released by an anonymous employee.

The rumors feel more like market survey to see how an idea is considered by the general public. Though most of the rumors I’ve seen generate such an uproar that disapproves of the change, keeping in mind that most people are against change anyway. They usually seem to mix it up with completely unrealistic ideas just to keep people thinking that they are actual rumors. Of course there are always the extremely stupid ones that make zero sense, like the completely transparent cellphone that makes no sense and it’s pretty much impossible and useless.

If this wasn’t the case then a lot of companies have some serious issues that weirdly enough haven’t been addressed and it’s clear that the “people” making the leaks and rumors haven’t been fired yet. So why are we still calling them rumors and leaks if they’re no longer that?

All of this just generates a lot of expectation and desire for a product that could otherwise fall through the cracks. Look at how movies are being marketed nowadays with them being announced and hyped years before their release, or before actors are even given the parts, etc. Everything is just moving so fast and people have learned to move from one thing to the next in such a quick manner that interest is lost quickly and every year the start of the rumor mill for a product is earlier in the year, soon we’ll be hearing rumors and leaks for the version of a product that comes out after the one that is soon to be announced and we’ll start celebrating next year’s Christmas right after the one that has passed, you know, to not have to take the decorations down.
