We got the exciting call from Choices! We had been matched with a beautiful little girl. This news set in motion a whirlwind of activity for us. We wanted to be with our new daughter as quickly as possible, so we moved quickly to get everything in order.

  • We had to wire all the money to our agencies we’ve been working with.
  • Print and copy all the immigration, passport and visa information.
  • Book flights and accommodation in Tokyo.
  • Find someone to take care of our cats and house.
  • Drive to Victoria to hand in final documents to Choices.
  • Pack!

June 8

On June 8th we took the ferry to the mainland to spend a night with Jen’s parents, before our big flight. Her family put on a fun impromptu baby shower for us. Mainly giving us girl clothes, since we had no idea of our babies gender before June 6th.

June 9

We woke up early and ready to go. It was rather surreal for both of us to think that later that afternoon we’d be boarding a flight to Japan! We said our goodbyes and headed to the airport.

June 10

Ten and a half hours later and 16 hours ahead, we were in our apartment in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. To say we were exhausted and rather jet lagged would be an understatement. But it was the reality that on the 11th we’d be receiving our little girl that kept us energized!

June 11

The day was finally here! Jen was the first to hold our beautiful little daughter. It was such a surreal moment for us.

After a few tips and explaining her feeding schedule, the caretakers left and it was us and our newest addition.

We did it.

June 12–18

Since our first day with our little girl, we’ve been spending a lot of time bonding and cuddling together, and a bit of sight seeing.

Life is definitely different with a little one, different in the best way possible. We look forward to bringing her home and settling into life again.

Thanks for all of your support and prayers!
