Introducing Curated Collector Drops

Today we are excited to introduce an experimental new drop type — Curated Collector Drops. A drop mechanism that gives artists greater control over the long term development and growth of their works and career.

Curated Collector Drops are drops where everyone is eligible to register, but purchasers are selected by the artist based on a new attribute called a ‘Collector Score’. The ‘Collector Score’ is an index calculated based on a collector’s previous collecting history. It takes into account multiple factors, including historic spend and how long a collector has held their pieces, so it’s not only for whales.

During the selection phase, Collector Scores will be presented to the artist anonymously. This means selection will be based solely on objective data, not name recognition. Anonymous scores will ensure fairness in the selection process.

This initiative is experimental, so Collector Scores will not be publicly viewable. As we evolve this over time, our vision is to make all aspects of it, from score calculation to selection criteria, as transparent and simple to understand as possible.

We built this tool to help artists have stable, long-term careers and reward collectors who are aligned with that mission. By using data, Curated Collector Drops helps us achieve that. Over time, we expect this mechanism to evolve significantly as we move closer to our goal. Our first Curated Collector Drop will happen with Skygolpe on 10/19 🎉.
