September Manager of the Month— Rouxbarbe
Hey dear Niftians, I know we’re a tiny bit late (almost two months), but here’s the first interview with our Manager of the Month for September, the one and only Mr Red Beard, also known as Rouxbarbe!
Hey Rouxbarbe, welcome to our studio hope you like it. Let’s start off with you introducing yourself and your team.
I’m Rouxbarbe, a young and fresh manager of 40+ years, I used to be a hardcore gamer for more than 20 years (mostly on PC), but for the past two years I moved to crypto, NFTs and Web3 in general. The only football management game I played was Football Manager 2 on CPC464 back in the 80s — I was supporting my amazing pixels with fervour!
Let’s talk about the game. What formation and tactics do you use the most?
To be honest, I don’t really have a formation I use the most, I just try to get the best from my players by choosing the formation where I’ve got the most of them assigned to their best positions (green indicator). Depending on their morale and fitness levels, and if some are injured, I mostly switch between 4–3–3, 5–3–2 and I enjoyed playing 3–4–2–1 for a while.
Which skills do you upgrade for your defenders, midfielders and attackers?
I use the hints provided in the medium articles, the player types on the squad board and the special attributes (corners, free kick…) to focus on some specific upgrades while setting a minimum of 10 in almost every skill. I’m no maxi, I’m more balanced about the 3–4 skills I upgrade the most for a given player.
Which was your hardest match this season? Do you have an arch-enemy?
Altrincham was my nemesis during the first season, especially when a bug allowed them to reach first place in the league in the last game. But still, that was epic and I crushed them every time since then. 💪
How often and when do you change tactics during the match?
The settings I use for every game are always the same as they seem to work well, I sometimes change the goal kicks to ‘long’ instead of ‘neutral’ during the game and from time to time when my players are exhausted or we’re far ahead, remove the ‘aggressive’ mode.
What is your opinion of AC Paris, Altrincham Athletic and Brighton Wanderers, the top four of your league?
They can be good teams and from the second season I stopped thinking about them as different teams. I don’t care if they are top tier or low tier, I just do my best against every team. The only thing I fear is the PVP coming!
What is your opinion of other managers? E.g. Nino aka Chandler Bing, Vev Beastly, etc.?
There are a lot of awesome managers around here! Sometimes I can’t believe how successful they are… Nino, Vev, pnvc, BeefMeister, Ledge… sorry to those I forget! I can’t wait to send my scouts to discover their tactics. 👀
Now let’s switch to some more serious questions. This one we all wondered about and I hinted at the answer in the introduction — what is the colour of your beard?
Ginger of course!
The first big Nifty Football drama didn’t take place on the pitch but on our Discord. It went down between you and Marmaladex when you let him think you were a woman and broke his heart. Why?
I’m sorry not to be the bearded woman he wanted me to be and I’ll always cherish the amazing moments we spent together. ❤️ Let us still be friends now. 🫂
Some of the managers alleged that your players are using illegal techniques. Is it true?
I’ve got a hack for them: I just inject 01011001 in their code and they’re able to be at their best for almost every game, but 🤫
