Today marks a year since Nightingale, the journal of the Data Visualization Society (DVS), was first launched!
What started out as a search for a home for data viz writings evolved into a space for DVS members to speak out and be heard
In more ways than one, Nightingale has helped build up the community
Quote from Ekta Khanchandani, Sports/data journalist
Quote from Jane Zhang, Data viz designer
Quotes from Isaac Levy-Rubinett, Managing Editor, Nightingale and Mary Aviles Insights Consultant, EarlyWorks
Quotes from Jason Forrest, Editor-in-Chief, Nightingale and Paul David Kahn Lecturer, Northeastern University
But all this is only the beginning! Nightingale may be a young publication, but it’s reaching people
We can cast the spotlight on uncomfortable but big issues shaping data viz like data ethics and data literacy.
Amplify the voices of underrepresented members by encouraging and welcoming first-time authors
Challenge rigid notions of what constitute best practices and how to adhere to them
It’ll be exciting to see what next year brings
