While many of us are working from home, self-isolating, or social distancing, the Data Visualization Society planned a series of online conversational sessions, or Fireside Chats, with professionals from our community on topics that are interesting and important for the data viz community. Each session features a panel of people answering questions from participants in a Zoom webinar format and will be posted to Nightingale over the coming days.

As COVID-19 has spread and impacted people all over the globe, it has highlighted that data visualization is one of the most effective tools for conveying information to the public. That’s nothing new; since Florence Nightingale at least, data has been a major part of how we research and understand health. So how can we build effective data visualization products from public health data? What’s our responsibility to deal with that data? This panel discusses how to address the design and development of public health dataviz.

Panelists include:

Katie McCurdy—Designer & Founder of Pictal Health
Harry Stevens—Graphics Reporter at The Washington Post
Tricia Aung—Research Associate/Faculty at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health
Allison Maier—Research Associate at KFL&A Public Health

Moderated by Amanda Makulec
