Becoming a believer in Christ means to simply take God at His word, to accept what the Bible says about your need of forgiveness and God’s offer through Jesus Christ of salvation. The Bible says:

God loves you and wants you to experience real life

  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
  • But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
  • The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy; I am come that they might have life and have it to the full. John 10:10

You, like all humans, have a problem that separates you from God. The Bible calls that problem sin.

  • For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
  • But your iniquities [sins] have separated you from God. Isaiah 59:2
  • The Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, and forgiving wickedness and rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished. Exodus 34:6–7

God sent His son Jesus to bear our sins, to die in our place. Jesus lived without sin, died on the cross as our substitute, and was raised from the grave by the power of God.

  • The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
  • Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows… We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him [meaning Jesus] the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:4,6
  • God made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
  • God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact …Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:32,36

God has through Christ provided forgiveness, reconciliation, and new life to all who believe.

  • For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old is gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him… 1 Corinthians 2:9

By turning from sin and trusting in Christ you can receive the forgiveness and life God promises.

  • …and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations… Luke 24:47
  • If you confess with our mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
  • [Jesus speaking] Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20

The last verse above gives us a picture of the relationship we have with God through Christ. Entering and sharing a meal conveys the ideas of reconciliation, intimacy, friendship, and love. Below is a simple prayer that anyone can pray to ask Christ to come into their life.

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that you died on the cross for my sin and rose from the grave. I now repent and turn from my sin and turn to trust in you. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, cleanse me of my sins, and give me the life you promised. Thank you for hearing my prayer. Amen.

If you have prayed this prayer please let us know in the comment box below. Blessings!

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:11–12
