As Nike’s CTO, I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Nike Digital Engineering blog. At Nike, our mission is simple: to bring innovation and inspiration to every athlete in the world. We have always been about enabling high performance, delivering great products and telling amazing stories about athletes. Now, we are elevating our game in all three of these areas, specifically around our software engineering capabilities and how they enable awesome consumer experiences.

Our engineering teams have been hard at work, reimagining and redesigning our systems to create amazing and engaging experiences for our consumers. From the sizzle of new AR sneaker launches in our SNKRS App, to the migration of our core commerce services to 100% microservices hosted in the cloud, to our open source program and its various projects, to connecting NBA jerseys to real-time content and storytelling via NFC, our teams are pushing the boundaries of technology at scale to delight consumers all around the globe.

It’s not always easy to make scale look simple. In fact, it’s hardly ever easy. Nike accomplishes this by building great teams with solid technical foundation: We embrace lean practices and work with world-class technology partners, while keeping the consumer experience front and center. It certainly doesn’t hurt to have one of the top brands in the world and a steady stream of innovative shoes and apparel. We love our products, and we’re passionate about the technology we’re building — powering Nike.com, a suite of five-star Nike apps, high-heat sneaker launches, connected apparel and more.

In this blog, the goal is to focus on the developers and the engineering that makes our experiences possible — online, in our apps and in our stores around the world. We’ll pull back the curtain and share some of our technical challenges, our innovative solutions and our stories. At our world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, we also host tech talks with speakers from across the industry, and we’ll post the best of those here, too.

The content here is by developers for developers, and our intention is to provide a deeper connection between Nike Engineering and the wider tech community. We look forward to your feedback.
