Keep writing

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing. — Benjamin Franklin

Do you know when you have a clear idea in your mind — and you have the main ideas written down — but you don’t know how to write a sentence that sums up all those points?

I mean, that moment when you are in front of your computer trying to write a post but you don’t know find the perfect words to carry on with writing. In your head, you express yourself very clear, but when you when want to write them you don’t know how to express yourself.

It happens to me every time. When I have a new idea for a post, some minutes after I reject it because the post is a mess of sentences without a specific meaning. And when that happens, I hate myself because when I talk to people or to myself I don’t have any problem, but then I’m not able to transcribe those words.

For example, before writing this post, I was trying to finish another post about my website. But, as I didn’t know to carry on, I decided to write this article.

Sometimes, this vanishes after one hour or after a day. And sometimes it never disappears. I still have a Medium draft from last December — I can’t find the perfect sentence to continue explaining what I want to explain.

I now what you might be thinking know: “It is not necessary to make everything perfect”. Keep in mind that, all over this post, every “perfect” can be replaced by “correct”, “suitable” — and not by “a sentence worthy of highlight”, or “ a sentence with zero grammatical mistakes”.

Another example is the way I put the title of my posts. If I choose the title before writing the text, at a certain point, I will not be able to continue writing because what I would be talking about at that moment won’t have any relation with the title.

I’ve learnt to live with an unfinished post. Thanks to Medium, I can write a TK where there’s missing something and I write the next point in my list. After finishing writing the post, I return to that point, make the pertinent changes and hit the “publish” button.

You should do the same.
