The Journey to Building the Perfect Node

Since the inception of nimbleNODE, our goal has always been set on creating the best and most versatile node that never existed. Our directive was quite simple: build a node that is well suited for the needs of the enthusiasts, but also affordable and simple enough that a non-technical person could use it.

As a team predicated on building useful technologies and working on the toughest challenges in the crypto space, there was no way we would pass up on the opportunity to build the perfect node and what we saw as being a crucial pillar of the cryptocurrency infrastructure.

With over a year of research, development, and a heck of a lot of grit and dedication, our team was able to introduce what we deemed to be the perfect node.

Simply put, nimbleNODE is a portable, customizable, and plug n’ play node alternative, that gives more people the ability to participate in running a node, while receiving all the benefits of using a hardware wallet plus more.

Requiring nothing more than a single USB cable, internet, and a computer or phone — nimbleNODE opens up the possibility of providing nodes to an untapped group of node runners and newcomers, while giving them the tools to maneuver through the ever changing world of crypto.

So where are we at now you ask?

Very close to perfecting nimbleNODE! While ‘done’ can often times seem better than ‘perfect’, when it comes to ensuring that nimbleNODE is worthy of handling your crypto securely, we spare no time, nor expense when it comes to testing our devices.

During the time since we have announced nimbleNODE to the community, we have been working extremely hard to incorporate some added features. These added features include end-to-end encryption, remote access, and a bunch of other important aspects that we felt were paramount to enhancing user experience upon launch.

In addition to this, it has taken us longer than we expected to be comfortable with the functionality of the Nimble app, from top-to-bottom. We have been grappling with issues in regards to sustaining the Wi-Fi connection on the device and making sure the set-up process is consistent and reliable. This has resulted in some delay, in addition to issues we’ve had with access to Apple’s NEHotspot Helper API, which has been quite a frustrating process for us. We have figured out how to go about this process in our own way but it has also added to the overall time this has taken. We are also working on a web version of the onboarding interface, which we have been working on simultaneously. As a team, we want to be as transparent as possible to everyone, and are fully aware of how long people have been waiting, so it is important for us to provide clarity on the situation.

Once everything is squared away, we will be shipping devices out to multiple developers across various communities for feedback purposes, after which we will begin full shipping.

Now, we would like to highlight some of the nimbleNODE features that will be accessible from Day 1 of launch, below.

End-to-End Encryption — Newly Added

Whether you are communicating with your nimbleNODE from a phone or computer, each command is now fully encrypted. This means that every command that is sent to your node, and every seed or key stored on the device, is 100% encrypted through an RSA 4096 key exchange that only takes place when you are directly connected to Nimble over Wi-Fi.

Remote Wallet Access — Newly Added

Since Nimble had originally relied on just Wi-Fi, we have expanded Nimble’s capabilities to include the addition of a remote relay server that can be used to communicate with your nimbleNODE where ever you are. Around the time of launch, we will be releasing this server to the open source community as well as providing an alternative option for the non-technical nimbleNODE users.

What can you expect moving forward?

Since we opened up pre-orders, we have received nothing short of amazing support and feedback from a few of our early testers. An astounding hundreds of individuals, spanning more than 21 different countries around the world, have shown tremendous interest in nimbleNODE and this number has been increasing.

As mentioned a few paragraphs above, we will be shipping devices out to multiple developers across various communities for feedback purposes in the next few weeks, after finishing the developmental hurdles we have been working through. Feedback is paramount to making any product better, and nothing can be more valuable than feedback from actual core developers for each blockchain we are supporting. Once this is done, we will begin shipping.

The process will be as simple as making your final payment, and verifying your shipping address and order details. Shortly after processing your payment, we will begin shipping within 3–5 business days so long as units are available.
