The Nimiq Community Update — Week 13
Welcome to the Nimiq Community Update! This a community contributed weekly write-up on what Team Nimiq have been posting in the official Nimiq discord channel alongside community led projects and content being created for Nimiq. Nimiq.Community will always remain open source & community driven.
What is Nimiq?
Nimiq is a browser-based Blockchain designed for simplicity. Nimiq’s reason for existence is to bring the benefits of blockchain technology to the mainstream. To achieve that purpose Nimiq has been built from the ground up to address and break the barriers to entry that inhibit the mainstream adoption of blockchain technologies. Nimiq is encompassed by a strong philanthropic mindset, it will always remain open-source and community-driven.
Marketing
Information released by Team Nimiq over the past week has revealed that the project has an active relationship with a marketing agency, however, details regarding strategy beyond what has been previously outlined has not been released.
Following an effort by Glenn from the Discord moderator team Nimiq finally has an updated listing for CoinMarketCap. The listing isn’t fully complete yet as more information is provided by Team Nimiq on official numbers related to the project but this is expected to be pushed through soon.
Rules for the Nimiq Ledger promotion have been released this week, participation period has not been set and are subject to change:
“[The]Goal of the Nimiq Ledger Promotion is to help increase visibility of Nimiq and reach people that have not been NIM holders before. It looks to reward you for sending NIM Cashlinks to friends and others that are new to Nimiq. The more new people you reach, the higher your chances to win one of up to 50 Special Edition, Nimiq-branded Ledger Nano S.”
You need to register for this promotion by entering your first and last name, email and a physical address (international format) where you will receive the Ledger if you win.
Create Cashlink(s) with your NIM at: promo.nimiq.com and send to new recipient via email or direct messaging of your choice (Whatsapp, WeChat, Telegram, etc).
Each new recipient of your Cashlink must successfully accept/redeem the Cashlink and also register for the promotion. The newly registered recipient also receives one ticket for successfully redeeming her/his first Cashlink.
Ticket count granted to registered sender per Cashlink per newly registered redeeming recipient:
- 1 ticket for 10–99 NIM-
- 2 tickets for 100–999 NIM
- 3 tickets for 1’000–4’999 NIM-
- 4 tickets for 5’000–10’000 NIM
Tickets are granted for up to 25 Cashlinks (up to 100 tickets per participant if all Cashlinks 5k-10k NIM)
Each participant can win a maximum of one Ledger. This first promotion targets giving away one Ledger for every 100 newly registered recipients, up to 50 Ledgers.
Winners will be drawn randomly from the pool of all valid tickets.
Nimiq nor its affiliates are responsible for the content of any message sent by the users aside from the text included in the cashlink by the system. Any other information added by the user will not be endorsed by Nimiq nor any responsibility will derive there with.
Exchanges & Trade
Week 13 of mainnet brings a small decline in the spot price of NIM with relatively good buying volume as the overall sentiment of the cryptocurrency market picks up. Following the announcement of the CMC & Ledger promotion listing, the spot price for NIM picked up from a low of 28 satoshis.
BTC-Alpha remains the newest exchange to list NIM with HitBTC still pending. There is currently a community effort to vote for listing on Coinex which can be found here.
The entire cryptocurrency market is currently experiencing a recovery with the total market capitalisation at $296,792,996,043 up from $289,988,704,180 week ago according to CoinMarketCap.
Network status, Mining & Transaction volume
Stabilisation of the network continues since the launch of the additional back-bone seed nodes with connection and consensus times remaining low.
Hashing distribution is progressing toward equilibrium with Skypool’s dominance of the global hashrate sitting at approximately 45%. The global hashrate has seen a fluctuation between a low of 387 MH/s (23/07/2018) and a high of 780 MH/s (28/07/2018).
Transaction volume for week 13 is subdued compared to previous weeks with a large transaction going through on the 23rd of July.
Community development & patch notes
- Community member Homeboy has launched PayNim.app, PayNim is a service which provides convenient, anonymous and safe way to send and receive Nimiq cryptocurrency (NIM) using email address’.
- Developer Reto Trinkler (Melonport), has recently released the alpha version of Agora Trade. Agora Trade is a cross-chain, non-custodial, cryptocurrency exchange based on multisignature timelocked contracts and hashed timelocked contracts. The project is currently in its prototyping stage.
- Surfer member Stefan of Twinibot has recently pushed through an exciting update that allows Twitch.tv streamers to receive donation notifications, through Streamlabs, for Nimiq.
- Hackernoon has recently released a short article about the Nimiq project Nimipets. Nimipets is a tamagotchi-like game where users mine Nimiq to feed and grow their pets.
- Sushipool is currently conducting a sticker giveaway for miners willing to show off their mining setup while running their pool! Be sure to go over to their discord if you want to get your hands on one of the stickers.
